EEB at Virginia is thrilled to welcome our two newest faculty, Dr. Katja Kasimatis and Dr. Drew Schield, starting in January 2024! They will bring a wide range of new expertise and perspectives to our group.
Dr. Kasimatis studies the origin, maintenance, and genomic consequences of sexual dimorphism. She takes modern, creative approaches, merging, theory, genomics, genetic engineering, and experimental evolution using the model nematode C. elegans.
Dr. Schield studies the evolution of genome diversity and structure. He combines field work, computational genomics, and experiments to investigate genomic signatures of coevolution between snakes and their prey and incipient speciation in barn swallows.
Welcome to UVA!
